This 2 day training will be run online via Zoom for the first time. The training is open to EMDR Clinicians who work with children and adolescents and have completed their EMDR Part 1 Basic Training. It is a practical, skills-based workshop to help learn a variety of techniques to enable EMDR Therapy to be used safely and successfully with young people in Aotearoa.
The training consists of lectures, demonstrations, videos and exercises designed to enable participants to develop confidence to apply their new learnings with clients.

The objectives of the training are to:
- Understand developmental needs relevant to trauma in preschoolers, primary school aged children and teenagers and their relevance to EMDR therapy
- Conceptualise a child or teenager’s presentation within the Adaptive Information Processing model
- To become familiar with and use adaptations of the standard EMDR therapy protocol with preschoolers, primary school aged children and teenagers
- To be introduced to narrative EMDR therapy methods that can be used to address PTSD in preschoolers with preverbal trauma
- To consider the role of EMDR therapy with Māori and Pacific preschoolers, children and teenagers in Aotearoa.
Dr Allister Bush is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist working in Te Kākano o te Aroha (Māori CAMHS) and Pasifika CAMHS services in Porirua. He is an accredited EMDRNZ Child Trainer and EMDR Institute Facilitator.
He is interested in bicultural clinical practice and is a co-author of two books documenting a collaboration between Māori healing and psychiatry.
